Although I cannot be absolutely sure, I think this could have been my first ever professional football match. I know it was definitely a mid-week evening game and not too cold so Wednesday in April is about right. I also (think I) remember the opposition is washed-out gold shirts so Torquay would be a good guess. And I seem to remember we lost so again it fits. In fact, those washed-out shirts are one of my strongest memories beyond walking away from the ground down the middle of the road (that had - of course - be closed to traffic). Went with my day and his friend from next door (John Walker) and his son Gordon. John Walker had a car - we didn't.
