The club was elected into the Football League Division 2 in 1896 and failed to gain re-election in 1912. At least one game was played at the Bowling Green Ground and two at Sincil Bank when Northolme was required for cricket. The match v. Stockport County on January 10th, 1903 was stopped after 86 minutes (at 1-1), due to bad light and the Football League ordered a replay. This took place on February 7th, 1903 and ended in a 0-0 draw.
