The club was a founder member of the Football League Division 3 in 1920. The club was also involved in a Football League Play Off Match at the neutral venue of Wembley Stadium. By 1997 and due to financial circumstances, the club was forced to vacate the ground and move in with Gillingham FC at the Priestfield Stadium until a new temporary home back in Brighton, at the Withdean Stadium, became available in 1999.
