GROUND HISTORY adapted from "The Ultimate Directory of English & Scottish Football League Grounds"
Named after Lord Lyttelton from whom the land was purchased in 1886, the ground was located on the north east side of Crawley Road and just to the south of Leyton Midland Road Station. Prior to 1900, at least, it was the best equipped venue in the area and used for important football matches. The football pitch was at the west end of the ground and the facilities included a pavilion. After Essex CCC started to use it for County Cricket Championship matches the venue became known as The County Ground and is now in use as a sports centre.
