GROUND HISTORY

Constructed on the Marshallβs Playing Fields, the site had first been utilized as a pre-WWII tennis centre. It re-opened on May 22nd, 1947 as the Brighton Zoo and Olympic Stadium and hosted a Davis Cup tennis match before closing in 1952.
Brighton Council rebuilt it and opened the ground on May 14th, 1955 as The Brighton Sports Arena and as well as athletics the venue hosted football and American Football. When Brighton & Hove Albion FC moved here the facilities included a narrow covered seated stand on the north side and an open seated stand on the south. In 2005 an additional 2,000 seats were installed at the west end, giving an all-seat capacity of 8,850 at the start of the 2007/8 season.The pitch size was 110 x 75 yards.
