GROUND HISTORY

The ground, located to the south of the city and on the south side of Heslington Lane, opened in 1922 on the formation of York City FC. A grandstand was constructed on the north side, an uncovered stand on the south and raised banking behind the goals. The ground subsequently saw some gradual improvements to the terracing and construction of a roof over the stand on the south side of the pitch. The record attendance of 12,583 was set on January 15th, 1930 when Newcastle United FC visited for an FA Cup 3rd Round Replay (1-2). York City moved to Bootham Crescent in 1932 and the site was redeveloped with housing.
