GROUND HISTORY adapted from "The Ultimate Directory of English & Scottish Football League Grounds"
The first match to be played at the Intake Ground, located at the rear of the Yorkshire Institution for the Deaf & Dumb and to the east of the town centre, was against Elsecar FC on April 26th, 1885. Although no map exists, from contemporary accounts an accurate diagram of the ground can be constructed and initially the facilities consisted of a small wooden stand which had to be rebuilt in 1891 following storm damage.

Some improvements to spectator accommodation were made over the years with the construction of a 1,000 seat main stand on the west side, a covered enclosure on the east and provision of wooden duckboards around the perimeter of the pitch.
The ground was requisitioned during WWI for use by the army and Doncaster Rovers moved out to Bennetthorpe in 1919. The site is still in use as a sports field.
