GROUND HISTORY

Located to the west of the town centre, Reading FC moved here from the Caversham Cricket Ground in 1896. The facilities initially included some banking around the pitch and a stand on the north side of the ground. A later addition was an L-shaped cover over the terracing in the north west corner but this, along with the stand, was destroyed in a gale in 1925 resulting in the construction of a new main stand one year later.
The record attendance of 33,042 was set at the FA Cup 5th Round tie v. Brentford (1-0) on February 19th, 1927 and by 1932 a narrow cover, later extended to cover the whole side, had been installed on the south of the pitch. Reading FC moved out to Madejski Stadium in 1998 and the site was redeveloped with flats and houses.
