Took the train (3 actually) from Lymington and then walked from Filton Abbey Wood station to the ground. It was chilly and very windy but the rain stayed away. UNTIL just before kick off when it started hosing it down. I was in row A of the stand at it was like sitting on the front desk of a North Sea trawler as the rain lashed in. Luckily it eased after about 10 minutes but the wind never relented blowing straight down the pitch into the faces of the home team who looked like they couldn''t breath. Doncaster were faster, slicker, more skilful and better organised and it was only a matter of time before they took the lead. Rovers did manage to his the post but little else before Donny added a second before half time. We all expected Rovers to look better and do, better in the second half with the wind to their backs but the visitors still look a yard faster and the third and fourth goals came as no surprise. As in the first half, Rovers hit the post but again there was little hope of getting anything from this match. With the chill getting deep into my bones I left a few minutes before then end an walked back to Filton Abbey wood and just reached the station cover at the rain started again. Then it was a short step to Newport and change of trains to home. I then got cocky and decide to cut an hour off my total journey home by getting off at Whitchurch and grabbing a taxi instead of going all the way to Crewe and back to Wrenbury. Only problem - no taxis. So I decided to walk it. Even that wasn''t too bad until - with a mile and a half still to go - the heavens opens and clattering icy rain spewed forth. By the time I got home I was completely soaked and frozen. The house was empty (Sue still in Hampshire) and cold so I lit a fire and watched a recording of Strictly Come Dancing until I gave up and went to bed. A long tough day but still satisfying. Sir Ranulph Fiennes would have been proud of me. I was!!!!
