4 goals, 4 pens, 11 bookings and 3 sending offs. This is the game ,New Brentford, came of age for me ..... Every past game of this magnitude and intensity have had the Bees fighting valiantly but coming up short but not tonight. Starting without the experience of Douglas, the energy of Adeyemi and only 1 up top I was apprehensive to say the least but we had good start to the match. Hodson had a header cleared off the line and Moore was denying The Blades at the other end. However, it was us who took the lead when Donaldson was cleaned out by their Keeper (after he had shot wide) and referee Stroud pointed to the spot for the first of four times that evening. Trotta blasted the spot kick down the middle and The Bees had the early advantage. The hosts were playing their second game under new manager Chris Morgan and it showed with SU resorting to physical tactics to try and knock us off our Footballing Stride. They were no match for us and couldn't cope. They picked up numerous yellow cards for late tackles and we had our fair share from silly bookings such as Moore time wasting and Donaldson diving. The second half began at the same tempo but we were holding strong until the Lino thought he saw Craig punch Kitson in an off the ball incident. Our captain saw red and a penalty was awarded. Sheffield subsequently missed the pen but their crowd were lifting them and for the next 10 mins we struggled. Bidwell was the makeshift CB with Hodson going LB. I think Rosler was too slow to bring on KOC and before he did Hodson was adjudged to handle the ball and Sheffield are awarded a second pen. This is converted to level the scores and now we are really rocking and our young team are on the ropes. SU are far too strong for us. KOC comes on for Hodson but within 2 mins Kitson has headed SU in front. If this was a boxing match it may well have been stopped but it wasn't and from somewhere The Bees find the strength, always missing in the past, from deep within and drag themselves back into the game by continuing to play football and press forward. 4 mins after we went behind Donaldson is dragged down in the area and the fourth pen of the night is awarded and the SU defender is dismissed. Sammy Saunders steps up to take it even though Trotta is still on the pitch but his kick is weak and the keeper saves. A big chance to level the scores goes begging but we are now 10 a-side. This only lasts 5 mins as Donaldson makes a late tackle and picks up his second yellow and the Bees are down to nine men. BWP replaces Trotta for fresh legs and the Bees push for an equaliser. Dean misses a free header from a corner and BWP is denied by a great save before a long ball up to BWP who out muscles the Blades defender, collects the ball before turning and setting himself and coolly guiding the ball into the net on 89 mins to send the 1,143 behind the goal into frenzied celebrations. 6 mins are added by the ref with both sides going close to winning although Sheffield had the best of them but Moore and the post keeps us level. Reeves was Douglas' replacement in midfield and compared with his performance in the same fixture last season showed just how far he has progressed by producing a MOTM performance for me. A MASSIVE MASSIVE POINT AND PERFORMANCE !!! Never before have I witnessed my team produce such a display in a hostile atmosphere. Craig's red card was appealed but not rescinded. Onto Hartlepool who are already relegated. We need to match Doncasters result and then beat them the following Saturday to up automatically.
