Caught 6.50 (375821) on cold morning. Then 7.55 from St Pancras (222009) to Sheffield arr 10.00, with the cloud cleared and bright sunlight on arrival. Took 10.18 (158855) to Barnsley, walked to the ground, bought £16 upper East stand ticket. Then back to the station, bought a £1.90 ticket to Elsecar, (11.24 142050) walked to the Heritage centre, a former 1850''s industrial site with a few craft outlets. Had a welcome tea, bacon bap and cake, sitting outside in warm sun. The railway wasn''t operating but had a quick look at station. then walked to the reservoir and nice little park nearby. Popped into the Market Inn for pint of Barnsley Golden ale (£2.50) while waiting for 227 bus at 12.55. But caught the 66 bus 5 mins earlier. At Bus station walked into town and had a sandwich sitting outside the impressive Town Hall, then joined the fans walking to Oakwell arr 14.25. Climbed many stairs to get to the upper tier, and my seat 5 rows from the front. My neighbours weren''t very chatty. Bolton went into a deserved 2-0 lead in the first half, but Barnsly struck twice to draw level in the second half. But Bolton scored the winner when the keeper spilled free kick for Craig Dawson to score. Strolled back to the station for the 17.33 (142081) to Wakefield Kirkgate, station indicators not working, and didn''t realise trains reverse hear to go to Westgate, but announcement put me right. Got 18.05 (158752) to Westgate, bought coffee for journey on 18.16 (82210) back to Kings Cross. Sat next to Rory, a Scot engineer in his forties, and getting stuck into the lager. In the next bay are 4 Leeds fans getting noisier the more they drink. Then Rory after we''d had a good chat, starts geeing the Leeds fans up, and whilst it doesn''t threaten to get out of hand, gets to shouting and abuse. As we''re near KX I move forward to leave them to get on with it, and chat to 4 Barnsley season ticket holders (drinking vodka and orange!)Much pleasanter company. At KX 20.37, caught 21.07 (465908) and home by 21.40, tired but a good day.
