My last league ground of the 92. Met Mike & Adam Brennan at Euston for the 9.03 train to Birmingham New Street. I''d booked the tickets at the end of Jan, and the 3 of us travelled to Burton for £49.70. I''d also booked hospitality at the club for us, (£47 for Mike & I, £25 for Adam + VAT and that included admission and programme). Changed at New Street for 10.49 to Burton, arr 11.20. Went to Devonshire Arms for a couple of pints of Burton Bridge bitter (£2.80 pint) while killing time before getting a taxi to the Pirelli stadium (£5) for 12.30. We''d had a shower of rain walking to the pub, fortunately not to heavy. We''re allocated a table of 9, joined by Plymouth fans who live in the Midlands. Good company, nice 3 course meal, with large windows giving a panoramic view of the pitch. During the meal, Mike had arranged for me to receive a signed matchball by a player (?) and had my photo taken. We sat outside in the back row to watch the game which Burton largely dominated, scoring midway thru'' the first half. Plymouth created little, even their 2 tall front men failing to impose themselves. During the second half, we spent some time looking over our shoulders, looking at the Grand National on the TV screen in the hospitality suite. Adam went in to watch it and his pick came 5th and won him some money. Mike was also tracking Fulham''s progress at Villa, the Whites finally triumphing 1-2, Rodellega heading a late winner. After the game we watched results coming in on the |TV, before walking back to the station as we had plenty of time. We were due to catch the 18.23 but caught the 17.39 (Edinboro'' to Plymouth) train to New Street, arriving just after 18.00. I didn''t fancy waiting to our booked 19.10 train, and as the earlier 18.30 was starting and in platform, I sought out the train manager, and after a mildly pleading chat, agreed to let us travel, if we upgraded to 1st class at £10 for Mike & I and £5 for Adam. Result! So back in comfort and an hour earlier than expected. Said goodbye to M & A at Victoria as I got off the tube. 20.22 from Vic and home by 21.00 after a lovely day. Even got to watch MotD and Fulham''s win.
