Strange day, strange place, strange game. Absolutely throwing it down all day and half expected it to be called off (nearby games at Northampton and Stevenage both called off for waterlogged pitches) but it went ahead. Weird atmosphere in stadium cos it''s massive (35-40,000?) but had less than 8000 in. Reminded me of the Ricoh Arena although not quite as horrendously commercial. Plus it''s very posh for a football stadium - extremely plush padded seats, excellent disabled facilities (well done MK), fairly middle class crowd, etc. Add to that my underlying unease that this is fundamentally the town that stole a football club!!! So all in all it felt very different to usual. The game was total one way traffic for MK - Colchester didn''t have a single shot on target. MK bombarded the Colchester goal but just couldn''t score. The in form keeper + the woodwork + some very desperate goal line clearances meant it ended 0 0. Good game despite the lack of goals. It was also Patrick Bamford''s last home game on loan for MK. Despite not scoring v Colchester he''s apparently netted a hatful while he''s been at MK so the crowd gave him a lot of applause at the end. He''s now on his way back to Chelsea (and a loan spell at Derby???) and tipped for stardom I''m told.
