Went on a day trip to the south coast for the football. Left home at about 10:20 as it was a 13:00 KO and walked to Streatham Common station. I then got the train to East Croydon where I then changed train to Worthing. Got to Worthing station at about 12:20 and then walked 5 mins to the ground. The ground is set within a normal residential street amongst a number of houses. There is a modern grandstand on one side of the pitch with a bar built in underneath and three small covered terraces on the other sides of the ground. The game itself was a very entertaining one and even though Tonbridge were one division above Worthing, it looked the other way around with Worthing completely dominating the game and playing the much nicer football playing through the lines and looking to get the ball down on the ground. Tonbridge were the complete opposite mostly thumping long balls up top and playing a very physical style of football. Worthing took the lead within 15 mins through a penalty and created a few chances after that without taking any. They then managed to double their lead about 5 mins before HT with a thumping effort from outside the area. On the stroke of HT, Tonbridge got one against the run of play after a mix up at the back allowing it to be tucked in to make it 2-1. Worthing came out the second half the much better side and within 2 mins added a third after putting the Tonbridge defence under pressure forcing a mistake that was capitalised on. About 5 mins later, Worthing were awarded another penalty and dispatched it to make it 4-1. The game was still played at a good tempo then on but the flow of the game was killed slightly by the unlimited substitutions being used by both sides. After the game I walked back to Worthing station and got the train to East Croydon changing for a train to Streatham Common getting home at about 17:15.
