Karim Benzema scored a hat-trick as Real Madrid secured their first win of pre-season by beating Fenerbahce 5-3 in the Audi Cup in Munich on Wednesday evening. After a 3-1 loss to Bayern Munich, a 2-2 draw against Arsenal and a 7-3 defeat to Atletico in the International Champions Cup in the United States, Zinedine Zidane’s side went down 1-0 to Tottenham in the semi-finals on Tuesday. That meant Los Blancos would meet Fenerbahce, with the Turkish team thrashed 6-1 by Bayern in their last-four game. Zidane picked a strong side, but saw his team concede after just six minutes as some sloppy defending allowed Garry Rodrigues time and space to shoot, his long-range effort beating an unsighted Keylor Navas as Marcelo jumped in his goalkeeper’s view in an attempt to block. Benzema then slotted in at the far post where he was left unmarked following some good play by Vinicius Junior after 12 minutes. And the French forward gave Madrid the lead after 27 minutes as he glanced home a header from a Toni Kroos free-kick. That was the first time Los Blancos had been in front this summer, but their lead did not last long as Nabil Dirar’s long-range effort deflected off Alvaro Odriozola and into the net over Navas after 34 minutes. Benzema went on to complete his hat-trick as he headed in a cross from substitute Lucas Vazquez after 53 minutes, but again Fenerbahce came back as Ozan Tufan rifled in from distance past Andriy Lunin, who had replaced Navas at the interval and could only help the midfielder''s shot into the net. But Madrid went on to win after a number of changes in the last half an hour. Mariano replaced Benzema after 61 minutes and his fierce shot was only parried by Altay moments later, with Nacho on hand to slot home the rebound. And the striker smashed in the fifth with just over 10 minutes left after Altay pushed out a shot from Japanese youngster Takefusa Kubo. Mariano missed further chances in the final few minutes, but Madrid at least had their first win of pre-season, with just over two weeks left until the start of their league campaign, away to Celta Vigo.
