On the way I went to Neil Snith’s house to deliver the LPs I had promised him. We had a chat for an hour. In prime place in his living room was his £25,000 HiFi system. Neil had suffered a minor heart attack a few months earlier. Tonight he was looking well and he told me is back at work. 15 minutes before kick off I made my way to Barton’s ground. Parking was easy as I found a space next to the fence at the far end. It was the usual £5 to get into the ground. Inside was a great social club and round the ground just a small seating area on one side and standing everywhere else. The ground is modern and cosy compared to others in this league though. In the first half Barton scored 4 easy goals and were far the better side. The standard of football wascquite good. I say in the seating stand for most of the time. At half time I ventured into the social club for some warmth. I remained inside for three first part of the second half and was intrigued to note that there were two men doing a commentary of the match. I wondered who on earth would be listening to it if it was going out live anywhere. Barton scored again to make it 5-0 and were dominating again.
