Comments :
My first day in Amman, and my Jordan Times, over breakfast, informs me that the Amman National Stadium is to stage the Jordan League Championship decider between leaders Al Wihdat and 5th placed Al Jazeera. Both teams are based in Amman. A vociferous crowd is in early and singing. Nearly all are Wihdat supporters, Wihdat being a team based in the Palestinian Refugee Camp of the same name. Nickname the Green Giant. Wihdat start the day only 2 points ahead of Al Faisaly who kick off their away match at the same hour. At half-time Wihdat deservedly lead 1-0 courtesy of a penalty. All''s well, so far... The 2nd half is a disaster, 1-1, 1-2, 1-3. The fans aren''t happy. Wihdat have had only 2 draws and 3 defeats in their last 5 league games while also losing in the Asian Champions League 6-2- in midweek in Bahrain. Final whistle 1-3!!! Result comes through that Al Faisaly have also lost, handing the Championship to Wihdat! Players go up to receive the trophy and their winners medals but look more like losers with their long faces. The captain doesn''t even hold up the trophy, nor take it to show to the fans. He has a face like thunder and heads straight down the tunnel with it.
