MEMORIAL GROUND

Memorial Ground has been a League ground
for 15 seasons;
from June 1st, 1996
to the current day .

Memorial Ground was the 172nd
ground to be used for a League game.

When Bristol Rovers moved in at the start of the 1996/7 season to share the ground with Bristol RUFC the only facilities were a main stand on the east side and uncovered terracing at the north end. A seated stand was subsequently built on the west side and in May 1998 they became joint owners when the ground was purchased by The Memorial Stadium Co. with each club holding a 50% stake. Just two months later the rugby club called in the receivers and the Rovers were able to assume total ownership as, under the terms of the contract any party not being able to meet the running costs could be bought out for Ł10,000.

The north end was subsequently covered whilst a canvas roofed temporary stand was installed at the south end giving a capacity of 11,917 with 4,000 seats at the start of the 2004/5 season. The pitch size was 110 x 74 yards. The record attendance of 12,011 was attained at the FA Cup 6th Round tie v. West Bromwich Albion (1-5) on March 9th, 2008
