| The site had been in use as an orchard when Brentford FC moved here in 1904. The facilities included two stands that had been removed from the previous ground, one erected on the south side and used as the main stand and the other on the north side. Unfortunately, before a ball had been kicked the main stand was condemned as unsafe and players had to change in Clifden Road Public Baths. This stand was not replaced until 1927 but further improvements took place in the 1930s with the installation of new covers on the north side and west end and the addition of extra seating to the main stand. Following these alterations the record attendance of 38,678 was set at the FA Cup 6th Round tie v. Leicester City (0-2) on February 26th, 1949.
The main stand was partially rebuilt following a fire in 1983 and, in 1986, the west end was demolished, part of it sold off, and a new small two-tier constructed. Following the installation of seating on the north side the capacity, at the start of the 2007/8 season, was 12,763 with 8,905 seats and the pitch size 110 x 73 yards.
