| Aldershot FC leased the ground from the local council following the club’s formation in 1926 and a unique feature (for Football League grounds) was that it was sited within a public park necessitating its’ closure on match days to allow for the collection of gate money at the park entrances.
Within three years a seated stand was built on the south side, a stand installed on the north side (following their election to the Football League in 1932) and the east end covered after the end of WWII. The record attendance of 19,138 was set at the FA Cup 4th Round replay v. Carlisle United (1-4) on January 28th, 1970 and in 1980 the north stand was modernized and improved with the installation of additional seating giving a nominal capacity of 16,000 with 1,885 seats. Following the demise of Aldershot FC the ground was subsequently used by the re-formed Aldershot Town.
