I set off from Dulcie and Matthews house after having me the new baby Serina who is just three weeks old. I followed my Aunt and Uncle to the large roundabout where I went left and they turned right.
I followed my Satnav to Cardiff but then diverted to a Morrison’s for fuel.
A little while later I found a subway at some services and had a lovely foot long steak and cheese sandwich with red onion, dill pickles and tomatoes. It was superb!
I arrived in Swansea and quickly found the ground and parked up. Feeling a bit tired I decided to just stay in my car for a power nap. Afterwards I caught up with “I’m a Celebrity get me Out of here” which I’d missed the night before.
Then I listened to the radio until 1830 at which point I decided to try the fish and chip restaurant next to my parking spot. Inside it was very busy and a waitress said If I sat down I would get table service. 20 minutes later no one had come to my table. The waitress I asked said there was no table service!
I found this so irksome I decided to leave immediately. Instead Kentucky Fried Chicken got my custom and I enjoyed my Zinger Burger!
I got inside the ground just as kick off happened. Swansea’s ground is a typical new style stadium with great facilities but little character.. I was behind the goal which gave me a superb view. The ground was about three quarters full.
There was a minutes silence for Kevin Austin. An ex player who had died young due to cancer. Then in the third minute a minutes solid applause.
Swansea had a great start scoring early and their fans were very pleased. Unfortunately West Bromwich Albion quirkily equalised from a corner and then again scored from another corner. No one was protecting the back post much to the anger of one Swansea supporter who had posed the question why no one was doing so just moments before very vocally!
The football was entertaining. Not much between the two sides. After a while I got the feeling West Bromwich would win this match. Swansea for all their endeavour just could not get that killer pass for another goal.
At half time there was amusement as Cyril the Swan mascot was in goal whilst youngsters attempted penalties. One young lad scored his after his 4th attempt! Mrs Swan then attacked Cyril for saving one accidentally.
The second half produced no goals so a disappointing night for Swansea.
I left two minutes early to beat the mad rush.
It took four hours to drive home and I kept myself alert by eating sweets and listening to radio 5 live and talk sport.
I arrived home at 0200am and went straight to bed. I was and still am feeling happy to get this ground done as it is a long way from home!
I discovered later on that close to 18,000 had watched this match.
