A wet walk to the station for the 6.35 (375630) to Vic, tube to Euston for 7.30 (390114) to Preston in First Class! At £26.05 it was only 30p dearer than Adv Standard class, and that''s the fare to Accrington. Arr Preston 9.40, then 9.54 (158861) to Acc arr 10.18. still damp as I walk into town and call in at the Calder Inn for a £1.99 breakfast with 99p pot of tea. View Accrington ''Pals'' memorial, get new battery in my DL watch at jewellers and the guy advises me on what to visit. Walk up to Haworth Art Gallery where a Tiffany collection is held. Not to impressed but the house, built in 1909 was impressive. Got the bus back to town and lunched in Wetherspoons Commercial Hotel. Walked thru'' the Market Hall, and then decided to walk to the ground to check how long the walk was, as I had to catch the 17.06 after the game. Its about 20 mins, and arrive at 14.10, buy a £3 prog and £2 fridge magnet. £12 to get in and sit where you like as long as its not a ''season ticket'' seat. Lots of ex internationals on display. Edgar Davids and John Oster for Barnet, and Francis Jeffers and James Beattie for Acc. Stanley scored after 15 mins a good strike from the edge of the area and two more good goals were scored before half time. But Barnet struck back with two good goals in the second half to set up a tense finish. A finish I did not witness as I left at 16.42 to ensure I caught my train. In the final minutes Davids was sent off but there was no further score. A few minutes before I left I got into conversation with the guy in front who was a local and a Spurs fan. Got to the station in plenty of time and my £14.20 journey home commenced on 158755 getting me to Preston by 17.32. A UK railtour train was delayed at the platform I was due to leave from at 17.58 and we were replatformed. Virgin Pendolino 390151 sped me home stopping only at Wigan NW and Warrington BQ, arr 20.18. Tube and just missed train at Vic, so caught 20.52 and walked home in the rain.
