Located to the south of Burslem and on the west side of Waterloo Road, Cobridge Athletic Grounds was built on waste ground and opened with an athletics meeting on September 4th, 1886. It had an oval cycle track, tennis courts, and a pavilion sited on the south side of the ground. Burslem Port Vale moved here from their Moorland Road Ground in the same year and played their first fixture, a friendly, against Preston North End on September 6th.
Within a few years and just prior to entering the Football League in 1892, new facilities, in the shape of a new main stand, pavilion and additional covered accommodation were installed on the north side. The ground was vacated by Port Vale FC in 1913 (having re-formed in 1908) and the venue was steadily improved as it continued in use, latterly for Greyhound Racing and American Football. Later known as Cobridge Stadium it was demolished and redeveloped, partially as housing and, by 2003, a Retirement Home.
