GROUND HISTORY adapted from "The Ultimate Directory of English & Scottish Football League Grounds"

Located in Cleethorpes, the ground was opened at the start of the 1899/1900 season on September 2nd.

Grimsby Town FC had moved here from Abbey Park and brought with them all the fixtures and fittings plus the two stands, one of which was re-sited at the east end of the pitch and the other on the south side.  The facilities also included a cover which was installed at the west end but players had to change at the nearby Imperial Hotel. Subsequent improvements included a new main stand, erected on the north side in 1901 and extended to the east corner in the 1920s, replacement of the original stand on the south side with a new cover and wooden terracing and a replacement 700 seat stand at the east end.

Prior to WWII a record attendance of 31,637 witnessed the 5th Round FA Cup match against Wolverhampton Wanderers (1-1) on February 20th, 1937.

In 1982 the south stand was replaced once again, this time with a two tier 2,400 seat structure stretching for about half of the pitch length and later modernization included the installation of seats throughout the stadium. At the start of the 2007/8 season the all-seated capacity was 9,546 with an 111 x 74 yards sized pitch.
