GROUND HISTORY adapted from "The Ultimate Directory of English & Scottish Football League Grounds"

This constrained rhomboid shaped site, sandwiched between the railway line and housing, was originally called Ivy Road when Luton Town FC moved the short distance here from Dunstable Road in 1905. The club brought the stand with them, re-installed it on the north side, constructed a main stand on the south side and built narrow banks at each end.

The main stand burned down in 1921 and a replacement, purchased from Kempton Racecourse, was installed on the same site. Further alterations carried out prior to WWII included the installation of a new cover and terracing on the north side, a new cover at the west end (later extended to link up with the main stand roof) and expansion of terracing at the east end. The club bought most of the houses at the west end and expanded the terracing into the back gardens and shortly after this the record attendance of 30,069 was set at the FA Cup 6th Round Replay v. Blackpool (1-0) on March 4th, 1959. The restricted nature of the site has allowed for only a few improvements with construction of new roofs at the east end of the south side, at the east end and installation of seats throughout the ground. At the start of the 2007/8 season the capacity was 9,970 and the pitch size 110 x 72 yards.
