The club moved here in 1921 from Woodhill Lane, where it shared the facility with the Cricket Club, and a timber built stand and changing rooms were quickly constructed on the west side. Within the next four years the ground, then known as Roseberry Park was purchased from the council by the clubs President, Mr JB Christie and re-named in his honour.
Only minor improvements were made prior to WWII with the erection of a shed, subsequently re-roofed following a gale, behind one of the goals and the construction of banking around the perimeter. In 1958 terracing along the east side was completed at a cost of Ł3000 and in 1962 the timber built stand was replaced by the current structure. The record attendance of 9,234 was set at the FA Cup 3rd Round tie v. Weymouth (0-1) on January 6th, 1962 and the capacity at the start of the 2007/8 season was 6,400 with 1,200 seats. |
