Football can be a cruel game sometimes. I had been torn between two games today and this wasn''t one of them! (C)oldham v Tranmere had won the contest over Forfar v Raith rovers, Tranmere had sold most of their initial 1700 tickets with a further 700 available on the day and i''d agreed to help on one of the coaches. I''ve visited boundary park numerous times and seen us win there several times but this was supposed to be in the opposite end than in all my previous visits plus another shiney new stand also having been built which swayed the decision plus we''ve been on a great run and it''s sort of a derby. Forfar is one of three Scottish league teams I''ve not seen a home game for and I had not seen Raith as an away team so that fixture had also teased me. As fate would have it Oldham held a pitch inspection at 10.45 after heavy rain, I heard about it shortly before 9am and knew what was coming and for a while I tried to work out if I could make the five hour trip up North instead but with the forecast there not being much better and the remote chance the pitch inspection would pass(it didn''t)! I reluctantly took that option off the table, I scoured the fixtures but the weather was always at the forefront of my mind and surprisingly with no mention of problems at the racecourse opted to see rovers loanees Ben Tollitt and Cole Stockton play taking Teresa another rovers fan along. Unfortunatly Stockton didn''t make the squad but Tollitt would go on to score the only goal in his farewell appearance before his loan ended. I had seen this fixture as a league game twenty nine years ago! That game ended 4-2 but the wet and windy conditions here maybe played some part in the low score line although despite the overall poor quality both sides created and missed some golden opportunities to score.
