Up at 6.20, away at 6.45, walked to B Sth for 7.05 to Vic. Got 8.15 from Padd to Stroud (£21.15 return) arr 9.44. Martin had driven up from Bristol met me. Had coffee and chat in nearby café, walked round shopping streets back to the car, and on to the New Lawn ground to collect pre ordered tickets (£15) and programmes (£3) then to the Weighbridge Inn 4 miles away, recommended by a friend of Martins.
Had a drink, meal and chat, then returned to the ground, parking in the school playground (£5).
New ground, although small, we sat in the back row of the main stand.
FGR had a few chances in the first half and played some nice football, but in the second half Stanley upped the tempo and in 61st min scored with a drive from the edge of the area by Conneely. FGR hit he bar moments later but couldn''t find the net. Stanley won 1-0 in front of 190 of their travelling fans.
Getting away after was time consuming, but Martin got me to Stroud station at 17.45 as a London train was pulling in. My Advance ticket was for the 18.32, so I didn''t rush to try to catch it, but once over the bridge it was still in the platform. the train manager was walking up to close a door, and I asked if I could travel on my later ticket and he agreed. So at Padd 19.10, tube connection was quick, got 19.36 from Vic, a 138 at B sth, and I was home at 20.10, having expected it to be much later.
Eve hadn''t been happy with me going but was pleased when I got back
